Endometrium is the inner membrane of the uterus and it works as the lining of the uterus by preventing adhensions between the opposed walls of myometrium. Thus it is responsible for maintaining petency of the uterine cavity.
During the menstrual cycle period of the women, endometrium grows thick, blood vessel-rich and glandular tissue layer and this judges the enviroment for implantation when it arrives to uterus.
When women get pregnant, these glands in the endometrium increases moreĀ in size and numbers. All vascular spaces fuse and become connected to each other thus forming placenta that supplies nutrition to embroy and fetus.
