Your metabolic rate – which is the rate at which your body burns calories – can be naturally manipulated a lot of different ways. Our diets, our workout routines, heck – even the water temperature we use while taking our showers has an effect on our metabolic rate. There are plenty of ways to naturally increase your metabolism. Here are a couple of them …
How To Naturally Increase Metabolism – Tip #1 = Interval Training
Interval training, more specifically, high intensity interval training – otherwise known as HIIT – is without a doubt the best way to train if you’re trying to burn fat. Nothing even compares. The reason why high intensity intervals are so effective relate to the fact that they increase the secretion of a hormone called growth hormone. It’s fairly complex so I’ll do my best to explain it.
When you train at high intensities, lactic acid – which is a bi-product of anaerobic metabolism – accumulates within your muscles. This accumulation of lactic acid is what elevates growth hormone. Growth hormone – which is secreted from the pituitary gland – helps transport fatty acids into the mitochondria for oxidization.
Alright, I’m done with the fancy terminology and trying to sound smart. Simply put, the elevated levels of growth hormone that occur as a result of the high intensity bouts of exercise that you’re doing will help you burn more fat. So…do them!
How To Naturally Increase Metabolism – Tip #2 = Eat Frequently
I’m sure you’ve heard this one before as it’s fairly widespread information. Eating frequent, yet controlled portions of nutritious food will “add fire to the furnace” so to speak and keep that metabolic rate elevated. The most common mistake that weight loss hopefuls make is that they stop eating as they’re under the impression that restricting their food intake will equate to weight loss.
This approach works at first but everyone who tries these starvation diets will soon regret it as they end up gaining all the weight back and in most cases, they end up shooting up to an even heavier weight than they were before they went on the diet in the first place.
Our bodies are highly adaptive. If you deprive it of calories and nutrients, it slows everything down in a conservation effort. Since it’s not getting any calories, it’s going to restrict the amount of calories that it burns. Following these silly starvation diets, your metabolic rate will be slower than ever. When the dieters return to their regular eating habits – with their even slower metabolism – you can guess what happens. They just end up getting fatter than they once were!
Your eating habits play a major role when it comes to losing weight and keeping it off and there’s a lot you need to know. For that reason, I’ve developed an amazing (bold statement I know) weight loss ebook and workout program.
